Some Trains

Here are some of my favourite trains...

No, I’m not an anorak, honest.

Steam Train Odyssey
Taken in the Lake District in 1986, with a bit of digital tampering 20 years on

Olton Hall, Keighley, August 2005
Taken from the window whilst I should have been working; one of the joys of an office overlooking the Leeds - Settle line is the frequency of visiting steam trains.

End of an era; Skipton 2004
One of the last loco hauled schedule passanger services on the main UK rail network was the service that ran daily from Leeds to Carlisle and back. Running with 37s top and tail, their rumbling engines notified me it was time to put the kettle on for a brew each morning and afternoon whilst working at the office. Here coming into Skipton, they provided the fastest train of the day going into Leeds.
Sadly missed, now the service is solely run by various multiple units and the one High Speed for London

Snowdon Mountain Railway, Spring 2005
A morning train puffing up the mountain. Snow drifts still blocked the line near the summit, so the tourists had to walk the last stage

Ffestingog Railway, Spring 2005
One of the fantastic push-me-pull-you locos of this famous narrow guage line.

Tom Rolt
More Welsh narrow gauge, this time on the Talyllyn Railway, May 2004
