We are holding a baby naming ceremony for

Oliver James Mann

And we invite friends and family to join us.

Over the first weekend of July we will be holding a short ceremony to celebrate the arrival of Oliver James and welcome him into our family.

Alongside this we shall have plenty of opportunity for you to meet him, and to socialise.

We will be basing ourselves at the New Inn, Clapham, in the Yorkshire Dales and underneath the peak of Ingleborough. There is plenty of scope for outdoor activities in the area, and plenty of accommodation and camping available nearby.

To help with our planning, please let us know which bits you plan joining us for.

Saturday Walk

Clapham to Ingleborough Cave, Gaping Ghyll & Ingleborough. Meet outside front of New Inn, Clapham (park in Pay & Display car park 100 yards up village). Walk length variable to suit your needs – starts on a buggy friendly track, but some bog hopping likely if you are aiming to reach the summit. Bring a picnic lunch. Wet weather plans may apply instead.

Yordas Cave

Yordas Cave is very straightforward, it is about 150 yards from the road, and you can walk into its main chamber. We recommend stout footwear and a warm jumper, but otherwise no special equipment needed. It is on private land, and we have had special permission to use it. The landowner requests us to note that the site is not normally available for such uses, and does not want it publicised as such. Parking is restricted at the site, so please meet at New Inn first so we can co-ordinate some car sharing.

Accommodation

We will be staying at The New Inn, Clapham. This is a fairly expensive option and the number of rooms is limited. However they are child and caver friendly. If you would like to stay here, book yourself in on 01524 251203.

Limited bed & breakfast available in Clapham. Austwick & Ingleton are also close by.

Camping is available at the Dales Bridge Centre, about 1¼ miles away. Camper vans also catered for. Booking required on 01524 251021.

Some caver bunk house space may be available, for example with the NPC at Green Close (about 1¼ miles). Let us know if you need us to enquire about this.

Gifts

Our warm thanks to those of you who have already sent Oliver (and his Mum and Dad) so many good wishes and lovely presents. It gave us such a boost during the difficult first few weeks to receive your cards, emails and parcels.  For the baby naming ceremony your company is the most important thing to us, and there is no expectation that you will bring Oliver a gift. But if you do, please be aware of how limited our storage space is on the boat… and no soft toys please (we have plenty!). If you’re stuck, books are always a good option.
